Etowah Adventure
October 16 - 18, 2009

The Etowah Adventure began as an informal dual sport outing in the fall of 2007. Organizer Rick Giddish was surprised by the large turnout from as far away as Indiana and all the attendees were just a bit surprised by how much fun we had there. The weather was perfect in both 2007 and 2008 as was the riding in and around the western end of the Cherokee National Forest. For 2009, the Etowah Adventure becomes a full Motorcycle Sport Touring Association Event and we're expanding the format to include both dual sport and street riding.

There are miles and miles of great paved and unpaved roads in this part of Tennessee that borders on western North Carolina and northern Georgia. Most of the unpaved riding is on maintained roads although there is some (optional) rugged single track for the more adventurous. For street-only riders, Etowah is located at the western end of the famous Cherohala Parkway and the great mountain riding around the NC/TN border.  Routes will provided in hard copy at the event and will be available as downloadable GPS files to registered attendees.

The region is excellent for "our kind" of riding and the dates this year put us in the mountains a couple of weeks ahead of the leaf-watchers that will turn out in droves when the trees are in full color.

Etowah, Tennessee is on US411 a few miles east of I-75 and about 70 miles south of Knoxville.

The Etowah Red Roof Inn (formally the Sleep Inn and Suites) has recently changed hands. However, the new management has agreed to honor the rates quoted for our event earlier by Sleep Inn management. The new phone number of the Red Roof Inn is (423) 781-7459. Be sure to request the MSTA discounted rate of $64.95 when you call. The hotel is conveniently located only a few miles from great riding both on and off pavement. There are also several good restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel and there's even a coin-operated car wash directly across the street if you feel the need to spray the mud off your bike.
