Written by Will England

Ready to head out to gay Paris (Akansas)? Be sure to plan to go to the 2008 Byway Boogie. Dates this year have changed a bit, we have moved it up a week due to conflicts.

So now the Byway Boogie will be Oct 10-12.

"Friday Roadkill Roast" will be in the Paris City Park right downtown. Saturday, the banquet dinner will be at the Grapevine Restaurant, 105 East Walnut (Ark Hwy 22 one block of the Court Square) 479-963-2413.

The host hotel, The Paris Inn is under new management and Adam the owner is looking forward to us being there. However since last year there were more HSTAers then they could accommodate we have a list of options ranging from cabins to campgrounds. I have a hand written list and will neaten it up and get it to you next week.

Last year we sort of caught local town fathers off guard and they didn't know what to think of us but this year after seeing our act last year the Chamber of Commerce folks are looking forward to our little soiree'.

Article 239

Factory versus Aftermarket

Editor's Note: Author Russ Weik/TX must be a bit of a redneck mechanic. I don't want him working on my bike but his advise seems pretty sound. By the way, Russ, where is Article 238?

OEM: for many years has meant Original Equipment Manufacturer. In bygone days that might inspire tattoos of one’s favorite factory or model. In today’s environment of world wide sourcing and companies merging in strange combinations, it maybe wise to use the five year tattoo ink instead of the permanent.

Twenty years ago most motorcycles (and cars) had plenty of metal in them and many individual improvements were accomplished by “metal removal.” This lead to the general acceptance, that, tinkering could improve the performance of steeds after several beers and some innovating grinding. A huge industry has profited handsomely by supplying parts that claimed, with slick advertising, to increase speed, decrease lap times, out run your arch rivals, and win the favors of the babe de jour. But, there maybe a fly in this soup. The guys (and gals), many with Phd’s and making six figure salaries, engineering today’s machines have resources and knowledge that simply overwhelm the weekend wrench. Plus the engineering departments have been pressured by the bean-counters to remove every ounce of unnecessary weight and content.
